A scalpel is a great versatile tool to have around at the work bench. It’s of course suitable for precision cuts in plastics, wood and paper but it can also be used as a small but very sharp scraper for finish repairs, binding and inlay work. There are so many other small jobs around the bench: stripping thin electrical wiring from pickups, scoring the lacquer around a top nut before removing it, cutting masking tape and sandpaper to size etc.
